Abstract
In this thesis, technical parameters, chemical properties, safety operation area of lithium-ion batteries used in energy storage units have been studied theoretically. In the direction of this information, materials and methods for designing an industrial battery management system for use in lithium-based energy storage units have been researched.According to the results of the research, it was decided to design a battery management system in module topology. In this context, designed a battery management system for energy storage units using a combination of Linear Technology's LTC6803-2 integrated BMS circuit and NXP's LPC1768 microcontroller. The system is designed to passively balance and measure voltage 12 cells connected in series for each module by LTC6803-2 integrated circuit. Each module has 2 LM35 temperature sensors and 1 ACS769 current sensor inputs. In addition, there are 2 relays outputs to provide protection functions. BMS modules provide communication with the the other devices by way of 2 RS232 and 2 RS485 ports. The developed system has over voltage, under voltage, over temperature, over charging current and over discharging current protection features to ensure that the battery pack remains in the safety operation area. Within the scope of the thesis, a user interface is designed for setting all protection parameters of the battery pack for monitoring and recording the system status.
