In the literature, there is no studyon the treatment of MC with the combination of them. Sometimes we offer thiscombination to the children with MC in our clinic. In this study, we retrospectivelyreviewed the patient files and compared the children treated with this combinationwith those underwent criotherapy for the demographic characteristics of children, success rate and side effects of this two treatment modalities. For our study, we used out patient medical records of Dermatology Policlinicfrom April 2002 to August 2005. On the children patients with MC, we selected thepatients underwent criotherapy alone and those suffered treatment of thecombination of topical salicylic acid (10%) and 5-fluorourasil (0.5%). There were27 patient underwent criotherapy and 23 patient who treated with the combinationof both topical drugs completely. The mean duration of complete cure was 5.2 weeks in children treated withcriotherapy, and 7.2 weeks in those treated with the application of topicalcombination. In both therapeutic modalities, effectiveness was 100%. Recordedside effects of criotherapy were pain, erythema, edema and hyperpigmentation inearly period, and hipopigmentation in late period. Children treated with topicaltherapy suffered from side effects of erythema, burning sensation, pain, itching, erosion in the early period, and pigmentation changes as a late one. Both methods were found effective and safe for the therapy of children withMC, and as a conclusion, these two methods should be considered primarily for itstherapy.Key words: Molluscum contagiosum, topical salicylic acid (10%) and 5-fluorourasil (0.5%) combination, criotherapy.V
