Abstract
Ancak Pseudo-nitzschia pungens'in Aralık ayında belli bölgelerde artış göstermesi dikkati çekmiştir. This study concerns the distribution of phytoplankton and ecological factors influencing distribution patterns in 2001 in the northeastern Sea of Marmara.Monthly and seasonal samplings were carried out 0.5, 5, 10 and 20 meters depth of 9 stations within the frame work of ISKI Water Quality Control Poject. As a result of these quantitative analyses, dinoflagellate were found in high concentrations nearly at all stations, but in some months an increase in diatoms were detected. For qualitative analyses, samples were collected by vertical tows of a Nansen plankton net from 15 meter to the surface. Qualitative analyses pointed that number of phytoplankton species were higher in winter, fall and spring when compared summer.Shannon-Wiener index (H') was used as a measure of diversity and it was determined that the diversity fluctuated within the range of 0.13-3.85 and diversity was higher at the monthly sampling stations when compared to the others. As a result of analyses of water and plankton net samples, 105 phytoplankton species were identified from Dinophyceae (42 species), Bacillariophyceae (54 species), Dictyochophyceae (4 species) and the other groups ( 1 for Chlorophyceae, Gamophyceae and Cyanophyceae; 2 for Euglenophyceae). It was detected that 12 of these species were new record for Marmara Sea and 3 of them would be new record for Turkish Seas. 6 species were listed in Harmful Algae List of IOC (Intergovernmental Oceanografic Commission) of UNESCO while it was seen that none of them were represented in bloom levels. On the other hand, important increase in Pseudo-nitzschia pungens in December is notable.
