dc.description.abstract27 5.
dc.description.abstract6. SUMMARY In this study, a total of 237 cloacal swabs and faeces samples from various clmically healthy domestic and wild birds (goose, chickens, turkeys, crawns, budger parrots, canaries, bulbuls) obtained from Kars and surrounding villages were examined for the isolation of Yersinia enterocolitica between November 1999 and June 2000. In order to isolate Y enterocolitica Cefculodin-Irgasan-Novobiosin (CIN), Agar was used as selective medium. In addition, Mac Conkey Agar (MAC), Nutrient Agar with 7% defibrinated sheep blood and Nutrient Broth were used as isolation media. Trypticase Soy Broth (TSB) was utilized as pre-enrichment medium. For the identification of isolates strains; Triple Sugar Iron (TSI) Agar, Urea Broth and MR- VP broth were used. In addition, L-Ornithine, L-Arginine monohydrochloride, DulsitoL, Glucose, Sucrose, Sorbitol O-nitrophenyl- p-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG) and Bactident Oxidase strips were used as biochmical tests. As a result, three isolates were identified as Y. enterocolitica, (2 from chickens and 1 from a goose). The isolation rates were 2,9 % for chickens and 0,9 % for goose, respectively. The isolation rate was determined to be 1,26 % in all faeces samples examined. Y enterocolitica was not isolated from turkey, crawn, budger parrots, canaries and bulbuls.
