Objective: At this study, it is aimed to reseach DNA damage, total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) in children with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. Methods : 45 patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis with mean age of 10.4 ± 3.27 years and 36 healthy children with mean age of 9,36 ± 3,65 were included in this study. Questionnaire about socio - demographic characteristics was administered to children and their families. The control group of the same age and socio - demographic conditions compatible with the patient group was selected from children. etermination of DNA damage was studied in fresh heparinized blood by the Comet Assay (mononuclear cell alkaline electrophoresis) method. Peripheral venous blood TOS and TAS were measured by Ö Erel method and OSI values were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 11.5. A p value <0.05 was considered to be significant. Results: In the patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, TOS, OSİ leves and DNA damage were significantly higher than the control group (respectively, p<0,01, p<0,001, p<0,001). So, the average TAS in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis group were significantly lower than the control group (p<0,001)Conclusion: We report that oxidative stress and DNA damage levels are higher in the patient with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. There is a positive correlation between the oxidative stress and DNA damage.Key Words: Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, DNA damage, oxidant - antioxidant system.
Aim: To compare Manuel reduction and hydrostatic reduction in intussusception cases that admitted to our clinic between 2010-2012 and to evaluate the results.Materials and methods: 72 cases admitted to Harran University Medical Faculty Were analyzed retrospectively with the diagnosis of intussusception between 1January 2010-31 July 2012.Results: Most of the cases admitted to our hospital were 5 months ? 11 years old baby and children. 28 (38.9%) of the cases were girl and 44 (61.1%) were boy. All cases were assessed with whole abdomen ultrasonography.Patients under 3 yearsold, without perforation, peritonitis and Cases does not exceed 72 hours treated with HR. HR was attempted to 47 patients. Successful reduction was achieved in 34 cases. Control USG was made 4 hours later, recurrence was observed in 13 cases. 26 cases underwent to MR, 10 to RA. In 1 case negative (-) exploration was observed. In 64 case ileocolic, in 7 case ileoileal and in 1 case negative exploration was observed. In 10 case foci of Leading Point was observed. In 5 (%6,9) of this cases meckel diverticulum, in 2 (%2.8) lymphoma, in 2(%2.8) polyp, in 1 (%1.4)lymph node and in the remaining 37(%86.1) cases idiopathic were observed. In Postoperatively early and late follow-up no recurrences were observed. There was not any mortality in cases. Conclusion:HR attempting in cases diagnosed before intussusception; shortens the duration of hospitalization and medical treatment, reduce socio-economic burden to hospitals and family . Especially when considering the anesthetic and surgical complications, compared HR testing to MR and superiority makes us to think unquestionable fact.Key words: İntussusception, surgery, hydrostatic reduction, manuel reduction,children.en_US
