6-15 yaş arası otizm spektrum bozukluğu olan çocukların beslenme durumunun değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

ÖZETOtizm Spektrum Bozukluğu (OSB), bilişsel gelişimde gecikme, iletişimde vesosyal ilişkilerde, ilgi ve etkileşimde büyük ölçüde bozuklukla kendini gösteren,yaşamın ilk yıllarında ortaya çıkan nörogelişimsel bir hastalıktır. OSB olan çocukların,sindirim sistemi sorunları, yeme problemleri ve tedavi amaçlı uygulanan eliminasyondiyetleri beslenmelerini etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmada OSB olan okul çağı çocuklarınınbeslenme durumlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmaya İzmir Konak MorisBencuya Otistik Çocuk Eğitim Merkezi?nde eğitim alan 6-15 yaş arası 50 OSB?li çocukdâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmada çocuğa ve aileye ait genel bilgiler, çocuğun beslenmesineyönelik bilgiler, çocuğun üç günlük besin tüketim kaydı ve besin tüketim sıklıklarıdeğerlendirilmiştir. Üç günlük tüketim kayıtları ile elde edilen besinlerin enerji ve besinögeleri bileşenleri BEBİS (Beslenme Bilgi Sistemi) kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Anketuygulaması sonucu elde edilen veri seti SPSS 19.0 (Statistical Package for SocialSciences) paket programında analiz edilmiştir. Analiz kapsamında, frekans tabloları,betimleyici istatistikler, Bağımsız Örneklem T Testi, Tek Yönlü Varyans Analizi, KiKare Testi, Pearson Korelasyon Analizinden faydalanılmıştır.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder thatbecomes apparent at an early age. It manifests itself in cognitive retardation and majordysfunctions of communication, social relationships, interest and interaction. Problemsof the digestive system, feeding disorders and elimination diets prescribed as treatmentinterfere with the ASD patients? nutrition. The objective of this study was the nutritionalstatus evaluation of school-age children with ASD. The study included 50 children aged6-15 schooled at the Moris Bencuya Autistic Children Education Center in Konak,Izmir. General information on the children and their families, nutritional information, athree-day eating record and feeding frequencies were evaluated. The energetic andnutritional composition of the food obtained with the three-day recording was calculatedusing a nutrition information system (BEBİS). The data set obtained in the study wasevaluated with the help of the SPSS 19.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences)software. The evaluation used frequency tables, descriptive statistics, independentsamples T-test, One-way Analysis of Variance, Chi-squared Test and the PearsonCorrelation Analysis.The results showed widespread selectivity for food and drink; there was apositive correlation between the meal frequency of the family and that of the child.Vitamin B1, folate, phosphorus and zinc intake was below the recommended levels forthe 10-13 and 14-15 age groups. Macronutrient, Vitamin C and iron consumption werewithin the normal values, while calcium and fiber intake were low. The participatingchildren?s most frequent gastrointestinal complaint was flatulence. Complaints offlatulence were increased in ASD children showing food and drink selectivity.Given that children with ASD are at risk for feeding disorders, they should befollowed up by nutritional recording; their families should be informed and educated.
