dc.description.abstract69 8. SUMMARY in this study a group of commercial layer hens were vaccinated against infectious bronchitis at 10 and 23 weeks of age with H120 and H52 strains, respectively. The immunity produced in laying hens following the intra-ocular administration of the vaccines was determined with HI and AGP tests. Birds in vaccinated group were classified into groups at 2 months after the second vaccination and follov/ing this classification ali the birds were challanged intratracheally with IBV M41 strain and the relation between the clinical signs and prechallange HI titers were evaluated. The mean HI ti ter measured 4 weeks after H120 vaccination was found to reach a maximum l eve! which was calculated as loğ 7.76. After the second vaccination with 2 H52, a remarkable increase both in mean HI titers and in number of birds with positive AGP test results was observed and the mean titers were found to reach a peak by the 4 th week post-vaccination by measuring loğ 9.32. The minimum and 2 maximum numbers of AGP postive birds were found to be 5.71 % and 29.88 %, respectively. in the vaccinated group, pre-challange mean HI titers were loğ 7.04 where post-challenge mean HI titers 2 were loğ 6.29. in the control group, mean HI titers of loğ 22 9.45 calculated and 14 serum samples (70 %) were found to be AGP positive.70 Birds having a mean HI titer of loğ 6 ör more z before challange, seemed to be more resistant agains infection but no correlation was found between the resistance and the percent of birds reacting in AGP. When compared vn'th AGP test, HI test was found to be more sensitive in detecting the immunity produced after vaccination ör infection. Moreover, a weak correlation was found between the results of the two tests..
