Y It has been an important problem for anesthesiologists to be unable to determine the duration of action of neuromus cular blocking drugs used in the anesthesia of patients with renal failure. Neuromusculary blockades in patients with renal failure supplied by different blocking drugs leading to the postoperative period have frequently been reported. Today, neuromuscular blocking drugs atracurium besilate and vecuronium bromid, are accepted to be the drugs of choice to be used safely in cases with renal failure. In our study, we aimed to compare the duration of action of these two drugs both in normal and in patients with renal failure by using a peripheral nerve stimulator. Our findings showed that the duration of action of atracurium besilate didn't change in cases with renal failure. But the duration of action of vecuronium bromid increased with the doses following the 4th maintenance administration in patients with renal failure when compared with the normal cases. As a result, atracurium besilate is safer in cases with renal failure. But, a more potent neuromuscular blocking drug, vecuronium bromid, can be used safely when the neuro musculary function is monitorized. 42
