VI- SUMMARY Solar lentigo is a circumscribed hyperpigmented macule occurring on areas exposed to sunlight due to chronic exposure to UV. Thirty-two women clinically diagnosed solar lentigo were divided into two equal groups. One of the groups was treated with topical azelaic acid 20 % ointment and the other group was treated with topical tretinoin 0.05 % ointment. When we compared the grade of hyperpigmentation of lesions before and after treatment, lightening of hyperpigmentation were found to be statistically significant in both groups (p< 0.05), but the difference of clinical improvements between these two groups was not statistically important (p> 0.05). Tretinoin ointment was found to be advantageous because the application was easier. Finally solar lentigo can be improved with topical treatment. Patients with solar lentigo should continuously use sun-protective agents. 23
