Y COMPARISON OF MORPHINE AND FENTANYL IN INTRAVENOUS PATIENT CONTROLLED ANALGESIA. In this study, effects of analgesia of morphine and fentanyl was compared in 32 patients undergone elective thoracotomy. Morphine was used 0.04 mg.kg`1 as loading dose and then 1 mg in every 10 minutes was permitted by lockout intervals, in group I patients. Fentanyl was given 0.4 microgram kg`1 as loading dose and 1 0 micrograms was permitted similarly in group II. Significant side effects on severe complications were not noted in these two groups. For both of the medications, there was some advantages were not statistically significant. As a result we conclude that morphine and fentanyl are equivalent in term of the postoperative analgesia effect and fentanyl may be an alternative drug to morphine in intravenous patient controlled analgesia method. 67en_US
