Terör, turizm ve ekonomik büyüme: Türkiye ve Akdeniz Havzası ülkeleri üzerine i̇ncelemeler

Abstract

Amaç: Terör sebep olduğu can kayıpları ve fiziki sermaye hasarının yanısıra ülkelerin ekonomik birimlerinin de davranışlarını önemli derecede etkileyen bir faktördür. Küreselleşme ile ülkeler arasında artan ticaret, turizm ve yatırım gibi faktörler terörden olumsuz etkilenmekte ve bu olumsuz etki ülkeler arasında yayılmaktadır. Özellikle turizm kırılgan bir yapıya sahip olduğundan terörden en çok etkilenen sektörlerden biridir. Akdeniz Havzasındaki ülkeler dünya turizminde önemli bir paya sahiptir ve bölgede önemli sayıda terör olayı gerçekleşmektedir. Bu sebeple çalışma terör, turizm ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkileri farklı boyutları ile ele almayı amaçlamaktadır.Yöntem: Bu çalışma 12 Akdeniz ülkesinde terör, turizm ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi 1988-2018 döneminde, beş ayrı çalışma sorusu kullanarak ARDL yöntemi ile araştırmaktadır.Bulgular: 5 ayrı çalışma sorusu için yapılan ekonometrik uygulama sonucunda ilk olarak terörün turizm sektörünü olumsuz etkilediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. İkinci olarak Akdeniz Havzasında Türkiye dışındaki ülkelerde terörün gerçekleşmesi durumunda ülkelerin turizm pazarının Türkiye'ye kaydığı tespit edilmiştir. Üçüncü olarak turizmin yayılma etkileri bölge bazında incelendiğinde kısa dönemde ülkelerde gerçekleşen terör sonucunda turizm pazarının Akdeniz havzasındaki ülkelere yayılma etkisi gösterdiği, uzun dönemde ise turizm pazarının Akdeniz havzası dışındaki ülkelere yayılma etkisi gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Dördüncü olarak turizmin ülkelerin ekonomik büyümesini pozitif etkilediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Beşinci olarak terör ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkide ülkelerdeki terörün ekonomik büyümeyi olumsuz etkilediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Purpose: Terrorism is a factor that significantly affects the behavior of the economic units of the countries, as well as the loss of life and physical capital damage it causes. Factors such as increasing trade, tourism and investment among countries with globalization are negatively affected by terrorism and this negative effect spreads between countries. Especially since tourism has a fragile structure, it is one of the sectors that are most affected by terrorism. Countries in the Mediterranean Basin have an important share in world tourism and a significant number of terrorist incidents occur in the region. For this reason, the study aims to examine the relations between terrorism, tourism and economic growth with different dimensions.Methods: This study investigates the relationship between terrorism, tourism and economic growth in 12 Mediterranean countries, using ARDL method, using five different study questions in the period 1988-2018.Findings: As a result of the econometric application for 5 different study questions, at first it has been concluded that terrorism negatively affects the tourism sector. Secondly, it has been determined that in case of terrorism in countries other than Turkey, the tourism market of the countries spillover to Turkey. Thirdly, when the spillover effects of tourism are analyzed on a regional basis, due to terrorism in the countries; in the short term it has been concluded that the tourism market has spillover to the countries in the Mediterranean basin and in the long term it has spillover to the countries outside the Mediterranean basin. Fourthly, it has been concluded that tourism affects economic growth of countries positively. Fifth, when the relationship between terrorism and growth is examined, it has been concluded that terrorism in countries affects economic growth negatively.
