The field-theoretic approach is used to obtain the self-consistent equations for inhomogeneuossymmetric electrolytes. The perturbative Green's function methodis used to solve these self-consistent equations for an electrolyte in contact witha charged dielectric membrane wall up to one-loop level. We show that the perturbativesolution includes the nonlinear correlation eects originating from thecompetition between the salt screening deciency close to the membrane surfaceand charge fluctuations in the ionic cloud. At biologically relevant model parameters, the correlation corrections give rise to the charge inversion phenomenonwhere the average electrostatistic potential changes its sign and the negativelycharged membrane wall acquires an eective positive charge. Keywords: Inhomogeneous electrolytes, Field theory, Self-consistent equations,Debye-Huckle theory, Mean-eld electrostatics, Charge inversion.iiien_US
