Social movements and their impact on public policy: An elaboration of Martin Luther King within the framework Civil Right Movements

Abstract

Social movements are different forms of action, which takes place by acohesive group of people, under one identity and a united goal. Based on theirgoal orientation, social movements are new agents of their milieu, and theireffects are direct with changes and victory of demanded goals. The impact ofsocial movements on public policy making processes is direct and influential.In such regard, the present work undertakes the basic question how new socialmovements devise new mechanisms to become determinants of public policyalong with a thorough analysis of theoretical discussion embedded in. In orderto handle the challenge state, the effort shall dwell upon the be evidence ofthe role played by social movements in public policy making, the Civil Rightsstruggle of African- Americans in 1960s under the revolutionary Dr. MartinLuther King, Jr. leadership could be studied as case study. Settling upon theCivil Rights Movement, the work shall elucidate and elaborate the role ofsolidarity in action, a mastered leadership to form a new identity, and drive theorganization through their path with a unique framework.
