Human groups formed by people who were born at intervals of 25-30 years, having grown up with similar perspectives, are described as generations as a result of their common experiences.  Today, there are five different living generations with distinct characteristics.  Generations born in different time periods demonstrate diverse patterns of cultural structures due to the changes and the development in social life, economics, politics and technology.   Technological developments have changed the nature and effect of communication tools that individuals use to maintain contact with each other. Before the emergence of social media, communication with traditional media was one-way and linear, while social media communication methods have created different communication styles.  Social media are global platforms where individuals can establish their own social environment and communicate with many people.  With the rapid development of information and communication technologies, social media significantly redefined younger generations' characteristics and needs.  The social networks that are prominent in this global environment had the greatest impact on Generation Z.  The members of Generation Z, born into the age of information and technology, have an important role in the use of social media. Hence, having born in a distinct frame of time has also differentiated the behaviours of generations. This study, which consists of literature review and field research sections, aims to explain the habits of social media use of Generation Z. In the theoretical part of the study, social media, the development of social media, and social media tools and social generations have been reviewed.  In the research section, the social media usage habits of Generation Z individuals, who were born into the technology, were studied:  A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was answered by 450 Generation Z students living in Istanbul and actively using social media.  The data were analyzed with SPSS 24.0 statistical program. The study has concluded that Generation Z students, spending a certain portion of the day on the Internet,  use social media platforms intensively; continue to talk on social media even in face-to-face situations, and the fact that they pay considerable attention to shares on social media, which is quite an important platform for them.en_US
