dc.description.abstract137 ABSTRACT This study aims to find out trainee primary teachers level of competence on social studies lessons. The study has five main chapters. First chapter, explains the aims, hypothesis and problems of this research and also importance and limitations of the research. Second chapter reviews the related literature and draws a theoretical perspective. Especially, essential teaching competence for the lessons have been identified from the literature. Third chapter explains the methodology of the research. A special questionnaire has been developed for the research to identify the level of teaching competence in the light of the related literature. This questionnaire has been applied to the mentor teachers and observer students in order to collect necessary data. Fourth chapter deals with the analysis and results of data. Analysis results show that trainee teachers have some difficulties in different teaching levels, especially in the finishing stage of the lessons. The results of the research and some suggestions which were made according to these results are given in the fifth chapter. In this chapter, it is proposed mainly that a day in a week teaching practices is not enough and it has to be at least two or three semesters in full week based. Further more, it is suggested that giving more time and effort for practice in the lessons in the departments is going to improve teaching competence of the trainee teachers.en_US
