dc.description.abstract72 18. SUMMARY From the neolithical period up to our present time, the ambition to express himself for man has always been a basic urge. For man, the ultimate objective is the concern to take a step forward. Starting from the women figure made of snake stone, and with the corridor of the Lascaux Bull, and from the Altemira Bison until the figurative arts of our time; in all these periods multiple styles, symmetries, and concepts have been used. While experiencing the potential of our present age, we have to take the leadership in attempting enterprises for the future, and while absorbing the past we have to reach synthesis and reconcile it with our present time. While doing so, we have tu remain close to our country in content and to the world in from. The history of our contemporary art dates hundred fifty years back. Since the beginning of the C th 19 the Ottoman Empire has undergone the period of westernization. The generation of 1914 has interpreted the art of western painting with a concept that is close to the understanding of the art of today's painting. In 1933, with the founding of the D group, a tendency of abstract and cubic elements in figurative painting has emerged. `Yeniler Grubu` in 1940, `lOTar Gubu` in 1946, and `Mavi Grubu`in 1960 were established. In 1970 painters from Ankara contributed to the art of Turkish painting. The years of the 1980' s are the years of research in genre and technique. In the 90' s it is observed that the works of artists are objects in commercial markets. Nevertheless, there are only a few artists that have been able to leave traces behind them that radiate their own style and character.en_US
