109 8. SUMMARY Drama takes an important part of Amerikan literature and art. The real American Drama had started in the Twentieth century. Eugine O'Niell had leaded the American Theatre. The developing American Theatre reached it most fertile era in 1930's. The crash of the stock market and the economical crisis had become an important topic for the American playwrights of the 1930's. Among those writers Clifford Odets had taken the most important place. He had written about the influences of the economical crisis on ordinary and middle class American people. As a leftist writer he had criticized the poor conditions of middle class, vulgarity, and starvation in U.S.A. In this study we tried to give a short summory of developement of American Drama and important American playwrights. After the a short description of American capitalist system the causes and results of the crash of stock market were explained. And the social influences of the economic crisis on American society were studied. Under the title `what is political theatre?` The political theatre was desceriped and the develepement of political theatre in the word and in the United States were given. The Theatre of 1930's was shortly summarized. And the influence of Clifford Odets on the era was expressed. The Life story of the writer was given under the title `The Introduction of Writers Works` and the six plays written by Clifford Odets were searched thematicly and technically. Shortly The most importan American play writer of 1930's was studied and introduced to Turkish readers and audiences.
