dc.description.abstract-68- VI.
dc.description.abstract-69- VII. SUMMARY In this study, clove oil was first isolated from clove flower and eugenol which is the main compound of clove oil, was then extracted from it. The eugenol extracted was then used to synthesize eugenylbenzoate, dieugenyl- ethane, trieugenylphosphite, eugenyldi phenylphosphinite and 2-hydroxy-3- -methoxy-5-(2-propenyl) azobenzene derivatives. Furthermore, the reaction of eugenol with bromine in carbontetrachloride and potassiumpermanganate in water were carried out. The addition reaction of bromine to eugenylbenzoate and polymerization reaction of eugenol under the acidic condition were also studied. The structure of these compounds synthesized were examined by using IR, UV/VIS and H-NMR spectroscopic techniques and the spectroscopic findings obtained for the related derivatives of eugenol were compared with those obtained for eugenol. The solubility of the compounds synthesized were determined in n-hexane, ethyl alcohol, dimethyl sulfoxide and water.en_US
