Öğrenci kültürü, gündelik hayat ve hegemonya: Rize örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Rize Merkez ilçede üniversite öğrencilerinin kültürel coğrafyalarını konu almış, kent ve üniversite etkileşiminde öğrenci kültürünün iktidar pratiklerince nasıl mobilize edilmeye çalışıldığına odaklanmıştır. Yaşları 18 ile 27 arasında değişen toplam 57 öğrenci ile yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat yöntemi ile görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu görüşmelere dayanan alan araştırmasının bulgularından hareketle siyasi kültürel iklimin öğrenci kültürüne etki etmekte olduğu, dikey hiyerarşinin içselleştirilmesinin kültürel hegemonya mücadele süreçleri içerisinden deneyimlendiği görülmüştür. `Kültürel atmosfer`in deneyimlenmesi ile öğrenci kültürünün mobilizasyonu arasında sıkı bir ilişki mevcuttur. Çalışmada, üniversite öğrencilerinin gündelik hayatları ve boş zaman pratiklerinin kültürel hegemonya mücadelesine nasıl eklemlendiği ve bu mücadele süreçlerinin hangi kültürel kategorileri kapsadığı tartışılmıştır. Hakim ideolojinin yarattığı kültürel atmosfer ve öğrenci kültürünün bu süreçlere karşı `direniş` biçimlerinin gösterdiği özellikler, kültür ve hegemonya bağlamında irdelenmiştir. Öğrenci kültürünün mekansal bağlamını oluşturan kafeler, konferans salonları, yurt gibi birbiriyle ilişkili kültürel temas alanları, mekân üzerinden genişleyerek analiz kategorilerine dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmada, kent merkezinin `muhafazakâr` nitelikleri ve mevcut iktidar pratiklerinin `homojen` görüntüsünün çelişkiler ve örtük direniş biçimleri taşıdığı görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin kültürel atmosfere verdikleri yanıtları da kapsayan bu çalışma, kentin homojen görüntüsü ile öğrenci kültürü arasındaki etkileşimde gerilim ve çelişkilerin yapısını ortaya koymaya çalışmıştır. Öğrenci kültürünün baskın ideoloji ile ilişkisi yalnızca okul mekânı ile sınırlı değildir; kent merkezi ve farklı mekânlardaki etkileşimsel boyutlarla yaklaşım geliştirilmiştir. Eğitim kurumu ve kent arasındaki etkileşimler, çeşitli disiplin, `kontrol` ve `denetim` mekanizmalarını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Denetim mekanizmaları öğrenci kültüründe beden ve mekânın yeniden üretimini hedeflemektedir. Öğrenci kültüründe tümüyle bir sansür biçimini almayan denetim biçimleri, Gramsci'nin `rıza` ve `baskı` aygıtları kavramlarının ara alanlarını açığa çıkarmaktadır. Bu çalışma antropoloji, sosyoloji ve kültürel çalışmalar alanlarıyla disiplinlerarası bir bağ kurmaktadır. Öğrencilerin yaşam alanlarının betimlenmesi, baskın ideolojinin sembolik içeriklerinin anlaşılmasında disiplinlerarası yaklaşım metodolojik konumu netleştirmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları ise kültürel hegemonya, gündelik hayat, boş zaman, tüketim kavramları etrafında tartışılmıştır.

This study is about cultural geographies of university students in the central district of the city of Rize and focuses, within the context of interaction between city and university, on how power practices mobilize the student culture. This study used semi-structured interviews to collect data from 57 students whose ages ranging between 18-27. Based on the findings of these interviews, the study concluded that political-cultural atmosphere has an impact on the student cultures and on the internalization of the vertical hierarchy which is the outcome of cultural hegemony struggles. There is a tight relationship between the experience of cultural atmosphere and the mobilization of the student culture. This study discusses how the everyday lives of the students and practices of free time are articulated into the cultural hegemony struggles and which cultural categories are covered by these struggles. The characteristics of the cultural atmosphere created by the dominant ideology and the forms of `resistance` against it displayed by the student culture are examined within the context of culture and hegemony. Cafes, conference halls, dormitories constituting the spatial context of the student culture, as places of cultural contact, are added into the analysis of categories. Contrary to the `homogeneous` and conservative image of the city center and existing power practices, the study reveals that contradictions and implicit forms of resistance subsist. Including the responses given by students to the cultural atmosphere, the study endeavours to exhibit tensions and contradictions between student culture and the `homogeneous` appearance of the city. The relationship between student culture and the place of the university is not merely limited to the place of the university; city center and other various places are taken into consideration. Interactions between the educational institution and city revealed the various control and surveillance mechanisms. Surveillance mechanisms aim at the reproduction of the body and place of student cultures. The surveillance mechanisms, not taking the full form of censorship, uncover interim spaces of Gramsci's `coercion` and `consent` concepts. This study forges an interdisciplinary link between anthropology, sociology and cultural studies. The description of living spaces of students clarified the interdisciplinary methodological stance by making the symbolic contents more intelligible. The results of the study are discussed around the concepts of cultural hegemony, everyday life, free time and consumption.
