In this study we aimed to define the changes in enzyme activities (AST, ALT, LDH, CK, CK-MB) with paraoxonase and arylesterase activity and lipid prophile (triglycerides, total cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein) in dogs with dirofilariosis. Thirteen healthy and 30 dirofilariosis infected dog over 4-6 year old age were subjected in the recent study.Serum aspartate aminotransferase (p < 0.001), alanin aminotransferase (p < 0.001), creatine kinase (p < 0.001), creatine kinase MB fraction (p < 0.001) and laktat dehidrogenase (p < 0.01) activities were determined significantly higher in dogs with dirofilariosis than the healthy dogs. On the other hand, serum basal paraoxonase (p < 0.01) and sodium chlorine induced paraoxonase (p < 0.05) activities were significantly lower than the control group. There was no statistical difference in serum arylesterase activity between healthy and dogs with dirofilariosis. According to lipid profile analyses, while serum trigliserid (p < 0.01), very low-density lipoprotein (p < 0.05), and low-density lipoprotein (p < 0.001) levels were found significantly higher in dogs with dirofilariosis, however, serum total cholesterol (p < 0.001) and high-density lipoprotein (p < 0.01) levels were found significantly lower than the healthy dogs. According to the results obtained in the study, serum bazal paraoxonase and sodium chlorine induced paraoxonase activity measurement may be useful tools, like LDH and CK-MB, in the determination of cardiac damage in dirofilariosis.
