Abstract

This thesis aims at examining and analyzing the process of the Turkis theseswithin the frame of the implementation of Turkey's Cyprus policy in the period of1945-1993. It also aimes at examining the internal and external factors effectingthese changes. In the period of 1945-1960, the Turkey's position in newly emergedinternational system, in the years following the end of Second World War isexamined. The developments beginning with the year of 1948 in which Turkeybegan to be more interested with Cyprus are also analysed; then, gainninginternational importance of the problem in 1954 and the establishment of CyprusRepublic in 1960. In the period of 1960-1974, the Turkish theses within the frame ofthe implementation of Turkey's Cyprus policy aimed to survive the Cyprus Republicin accordance with the agreements up to 1963` are analysed. The changes in Turkey'sforeign policy in 1964 affected Turkey's Cyprus theses, so that from 1968, thesearch for different solutions were to be considered within the frame of the internaland external factors. In the period of 1974-1986, some differences began to emergein Turkish theses after the Turkish intervention; and this new situation increased theTurkish Cypriots' effects on the Turkish theses for the Cyprus problem. The internaland external factors affecting the new developments with the establishment ofTRNC in 1983 are also analysed. In the period of 1986-1993, the effect of the finaldevelopments on Turkish theses and internal and external factors framing theseeffects are examined and analysed.
