Süryani milliyetçiliği ve dinamiklerinin tarihsel analizi

Abstract

Süryani milliyetçiliği; Osmanlı İmparatorluğu egemenliği altında gelişen ancak aynı coğrafyadaki Ermeni ve Arap milliyetçilikleri gibi başarılı olamayan veya Kürt milliyetçiliği kadar görünürlüğü olmayan bir milliyetçiliktir. Bu çalışmada Süryani topluluğunun, çeşitli devletler idaresinde ve çeşitli dönemlerde varlıklarını nasıl koruyabildikleri tarihsel perspektiften incelenirken, paradoksal olarak bu kadim topluluğun kendi devletini kuramaması ve 19-20. yüzyıldaki milliyetçilik dalgasını diğer topluluklar kadar lehine kullanamamasının nedenleri araştırılmıştır.Yeterli akademik ilgiyi henüz pek görmemiş olan `Süryani Milliyetçiliği`nin incelendiği bu çalışmada; ilk olarak milliyetçilik olgusunun gelişimi, milliyetçilikle ilişkili kavramlar ve milliyetçilik kuramları analiz edilmiştir. Ardından Süryani Toplumunun tarihi araştırılarak, Süryani milliyetçiliğinin gelişim süreci milliyetçilik dinamikleri ekseninde açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Neticede, diğer rakip milliyetçilikler kadar gözlemlenebilir güçlü bir Süryani milliyetçiliğinin oluşmadığı tespit edilmiş ve bunun nedenleri açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu bağlamda; Süryani toplumunda din olgusunun etnik kimlikten daha önemli olması, diğer bir ifade ile geleneksel dayanışma formlarının varlığını devam ettirmesi, Süryani toplumunun ekonomik, siyasi ve kültürel açıdan yok olma tehdidi ile karşılaşmaması, kapsayıcı ortak bir köken ve tarih mitinin yokluğu, modernleşme süreçlerine uzak kalmaları, uluslararası desteğin istikrarsızlığı ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti merkezi yönetimi ile pozitif ilişkiler kurma stratejisinin Süryani milliyetçiliğinin zayıf seyrine katkıda bulunduğu vurgulanmıştır. Assyrian nationalism; a kind of nationalism that developed under the reign of the Ottoman Empire but has not succeeded as Armenian and Arab nationalism in the same geography, or has never been as visible as Kurdish nationalism. In this study, it is examined with historical perspective that how Assyrian community preserve their existence in different periods and under several states, the reasons why this ancient community could not be able to establish their own state paradoxically and the reasons why they could not use the wave of nationalism in 19th and 20th centuries in their favor as other communities have been researched.This study, in which the `Assyrian Nationalism` that has not attracted academic interest yet has been studied, analyzes the development of the phenomenon of nationalism, concepts related to nationalism and theories of nationalism. Then the history of the Assyrian community was searched and tried to explain developmental process of Assyrian nationalism in accordance with the dynamics of nationalism. Consequently, it was determined that a strong Assyrian nationalism could not be observed as much as other rival nationalisms, and the reasons for this situation was tried to be explained.In this regard; the fact that religious phenomenon is more important than ethnic identity in the Assyrian society, in other words, the continuation of the forms of traditional solidarity, also the fact that Assyrian society not to face any threat of extinction in economic, political and cultural terms, the absence of a common comprehensive root and history myth, the failure to participate in the modernization processes, instability of international assistance and the strategy of establishing positive relations with the central government of the Republic of Turkey contributed to the weak progress of Assyrian nationalism.Key words: Syrians, Nationalism, Ethnicity, Modern theories, Nestorians, Assyrians
