Feminists and cyberpunks: Reclaiming the body from the polymorphous techniques of power

Abstract

Bu calismanin amaci bedenin iktidar iliskilerindeki rolunu incelemektir. Michel Foucault'nun iktidar mekanizmalari perspektifinden Batinin guzellik standartlari ele alinacaktir. Bu calisma bedenin bir iletisim araci oldugunu ongoren iki farkli grubun yaklasimlarina yer vermektedir. Bu iki grup, feministler ve cyberpunklar, bedenin iktidar tarafindan ozneleri sekillendirmek ve kontrol etmek icin kullanildigini ortaya koyarlar. Bu iki grubun temel amaci bedeni iktidardan geri talep etmek ve bedenleri uzerinde kontrol sahibi olmaktir. Bu calismanin amaci feministler ve cyberpunklarin bedeni iktidardan talep etme cabalarinin bir sosyal direnis olusturup, olusturamayacagini tartismaktir.

This project is done for the exploration of the role of the body in power relations.Taking Michel Foucault?s theory of disciplinary mechanisms of power and theirimplication in everyday life, this study tries to focus on the standardized beauty ideals ofthe West. The study also presents the ideas of two different groups that are interested inusing the body as a medium for expression. The common belief, hold by these twogroups, feminists and cyberpunks, is that body has always been and still is used as aspace for controlling and shaping subjects. The main concern of these two groups is toreclaim their bodies from the micro-practices of disciplinary power. The main aim of thisstudy is to discuss the possibility of a resistance in the embodied practices of thesegroups.
