James Graham Ballard`ın Gökdelen adlı eserinin distopya ışığında incelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı İngiliz yazar James Graham Ballard'ın modern romanı Gökdelen'i distopya edebiyatının özellikleri bakımından incelemektir. Çalışmada, distopyanın ortaya çıkışına temel hazırlayan ütopya edebiyatına, distopyayı tanımlama ve doğasını daha iyi anlamaya olanak vermesi bakımından iki tür arasındaki farklılıklara odaklanılarak yer verilmiştir. Tezin ilk bölümünde distopyanın tarihsel gelişimine yer verilmiş, distopya edebiyatının özellikleri ve türleri teorik açıdan ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölüm yazarın distopya türüne duyduğu kişisel yakınlığın anlatımı ile başlar. Gökdelen adlı romanda distopya, özellikle tematik olarak incelenmiştir. Distopya kavramı, Gökdelen'nin baskıcı yönetimi ve başvurduğu yöntemler, katlar arası çatışma, teknolojinin bir silah olarak kullanılması, mekân, yabancılaşma ve distopik karakter üzerinde durularak incelenmiştir.

The aim of this study is to examine English writer James Graham Ballard's modern novel High-Rise in terms of the features of dystopian literature. In this study, utopian literature that provides the basis for the emergence of dystopia is given focusing on the differences between the two genres in terms of providing the definition of dystopia and a better understanding of its nature. In the first part of the thesis, the historical development of dystopia is given and the features, types of dystopian literature are discussed from the theoretical point of view. Second part begins with the expression of the author's personal affinity to dystopia. In the novel High-Rise, dystopia is examined thematically. The concept of dystopia is examined through focusing on the oppressive power in High-Rise and the methods used by it, conflict between floors, using technology as a weapon, space, defamiliarization and dystopian character are examined.
