A total of 32 patients were included in this study to investigate whether there was any difference between acetate dialysate-used patients and bicarbonete dialysate-used ones in terms of pH, blood gases (p02, pC02 and HC03`), thrombocyte and white blood cell counts, and also to determine the difference in those parameters, occuring at the period of dialysis. Of the patients in this study, 16 were subjected to acetate hemodialysis and the other 16 to bicarbonate hemodialysis. Venous blood samples were taken from both the patient groups at the beginning (O.min), 15th, 30th, 90th and 240th minutes of dialysis and leukocyte and thrombocyte counts, pH, p02, pC02 and HC03` levels were determined. Whether there was any difference in each parameter between the dialysis periods was statistically investiyated with t-test. At the end of this research, it was concluded that hypoxemia developed during the first 15th minute, leukopenia and trombocytopenia developed at the 30th minute and turned to normal values at the end of the dialysis. In acetate-used hemodialiysis patients the parameters of blood gas analyses and leukocyte and thrombocyte counts seemed to be more profound and to be expected values in bicarbonate-used hemodialysis group throughout the dialysis period.
