Y Total 150 patients with meningitis admitted to the clinics of Erciyes University Gevher Nesibe hospital were investigated for the etiological incidence of bacterial meningitis agents by bacteriological stain and culture methods of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples of these patients. Various bacteria in 49 (32.6 %) of samples were seen by staining with Gram and Ziehl-Neelson methods, and various bacteria in 46 (30.6 %) of samples were grown by bacteriological culturing methods. 20 (13.3 %) Enterobacter, 5 (3.3 %) S.pneumoniae, 5 (3.3 %) Enterococcus, 5 (3.3 %) E.coli, 5 (3.3 %) N.meningitidis, 4 (2.6 %) Pseudomonas, 1 (0.6 %) Klebsiella and 1 (0.6 %) a hemolytic Steptococcus strains were isolated from the cultures of the 150 CSF. Most of the bacteria isolated from CSF samples were belong to the patients hospitalised in New Born and Pediatric clinics. Bacteria were seen by Staining methods at 37 (80.4 %) CSF samples being culture-positive. It was found that the relation between bacterial growth and detection of bacterial in stained preparations significent (p<0.05). The agents of meningitis isolated were found susceptible most commonly to Amikacin and Sulb- ampisilin.en_US
