dc.description.abstract125 SUMMARY Ionesco is a playwright who was depressed with the idea of a confined and limited life. The negative traces of this feeling is clearly seen in his autobiographic works as well as in his critical and dramatic books. What is more, it can be said that this feeling influenced all his life and activities. This depressed way of life caused him to cling upon a pessimistic view of world. With this study, we wanted to present how this pessimistic and depressed elements are portrayed in his autobiographic works and `Le Roi se meurt` among his dramatic works as an `archetype`. We studied the reflections of dispair and depression in his real life in his work `Le journal en miettes`, and the reflections and impact these feelings on his dramatics works. We concluded that the state of man in the world was quite intolerable and disturbing. The unique reason that caused him to feel depressed and pessimistic was observed to be ` The State of Man` in the world. However he was against suicide, despite all its negative sides, he preferred a suffering life to suicide. Because the only way of existance, he know was his `life`, he was leading. He clings upon this life. Ionesco preserves his passion of life in sprite of the depression he was experiencing. This study has been directed towards investigating the reflections of these efforts on his works and life.en_US
