İngilizce bölümü hazırlık sınıfı öğrencileri için belirli amaçlı İngilizce öğretimine yönelik program geliştirme

Abstract

ÖZET İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü Hazırlık Sınıfı öğrencileri için geliştirmeye çalıştığımız Belirli Amaçlı İngilizce Öğretimi Programında, 1990 yılından bu yana uygulanan Hazırlık Sınıflan Eğitim ve Öğretiminde karşılaştığımız güçlükleri gidermeyi amaçladık. Bu amaçla, anket yaptık ve öğretim elemanları ile görüşmelerde bulunduk. Elde ettiğimiz bilgiler doğrultusunda Belirli Amaçlı İngilizce Öğretimi Programı geliştirmeye çalıştık. Çalışmamızın birinci bölümünde, çalışmanın dayanağını, amacını, kapsamını ve varsayımları belirttik. Çalışma alanımızı saptayarak, araştırmamızın sınırlarını belirledik. Çalışmamızın ikinci bölümünde kuramsal temellere değindik, Belirli Amaçlı İngilizce Öğretimi ile ilgili yaklaşımları inceledik; okuma ve yazma becerilerinin kazanılmasında izlenen yollan araştırdık. Bölümümüz Hazırlık Sınıfındaki mevcut dersler sınavlar ve karşılaştığımız güçlüklerden sözettik. Çalışmamızın üçüncü bölümünde, anketlerin hazırlanması ve uygulanmasından, Hazırlık Sınıfı öğretim elemanları ile görüşme, bilgi toplamadan sözettik. Topladığımız bilgileri değerlendirerek, çalışmamızın amacına uygun olup olmadığına baktık. Gereksinim çözümlemesi yaparak, öğrenci gereksinimleri ile bölümün gereksinimleri arasında uygunluğun olup olmadığını inceledik. Dördüncü bölümde program önerimizi sunduk. Belirli Amaçlı İngilizce Eğitim ve Öğretimi'ni etkileyen etmenleri gözönüne alarak, okuma ve yazma becerilerinin birleştirilmesinin önemini vurguladık. Ayrıca, takviye öğretiminin yapılması gerektiğini önererek, programın kısa bir değerlendirmesini yaptık. Sonuç bölümünde verilen derslere ek olarak, Çeviri ve Anlambilim derslerinin de verilmesinin yararlı olacağını, programın eşgüdümlü bir şekilde yürütülmesinin gerekliliğini ileri sürdük.

II ABSTRACT In this ESP program which we try to develop for the Preparatory Class of the Department of the English Language and Literature, we have tried to remedy the difficulties which we observed during the courses given in the preparatory class since 1990. For this reason, we applied a questionnaire to the students and interviewed with the lecturers. Considering the data, we have tried to design an ESP program. In Chapter I, the general background of the study is given, aims and scope of the study are stated, and assumptions are given. We determine the limitations of the study. In Chapter II, a general review of the teaching of ESP, a review of the model approaches to syllabus design in ESP and some reading and writing technigues are discussed. We state the existing system, exams and constraints in the Preparatory classes. In Chapter III, we mention about the pereparation and application of the questionnaire, the interview given to the lecturers and the data obtained from the students. We analyze the data and discuss the results whether they are suitable for the program that we want to design. Applying needs analysis, we state the students' needs and discuss them with those of the department. In Chapter IV, a model course design is suggested. Considering the factors, which influence the teaching of ESP, we emphasize the importance of the integration of reading and writing skills. We suggest remedial teaching and give a brief evaluation of the course. Finally, in chapter V, we suggest that we should add translation and semantics courses to the syllabus, and the courses must be given in coordination.
