Ömer ÖZDEN Yrd. Dr. Ruhattin YAZOĞLU Bu çalışma, Wilfred Cantwell Smith' in iman ve dinî çoğulculuk anlayışım tartışmaktadır. Anglo-Amerikan teolojisinde çoğulcu modelin öncüsü kabul edilen Smith, genel olarak büyük dünya dinlerinin, özelde ise İslâm dininin batılı düşünürler tarafından objektif olarak anlaşılmasında büyük katkılarda bulunmuştur. O, `din` kavramının, 17. yüzyılda batı dünyasında ortaya çıkan sistemleştirme sürecinin bir ürünü olduğunu kabul etmektedir. Bu yüzden bu kavramların yerine, daha uygun ve dinamik olan `iman` ve `birikimsel gelenek` kavramlarının kullanılmasını uygun görmektedir. Smith, dinlerin kurtuluş teolojilerinde dışlayıcılıktan vazgeçerek, diğer dinler için de kurtuluşun varlığını kabul etmeleri gerektiğini savunur. Ona göre dinin en önemli işlevlerinden biri çatışma değil, diyalog ve toplumsal uzlaşmadır. Bu yüzden dinsel hayat, dinî çoğulculuk çerçevesinde yaşanmalıdır. Bu çalışma, iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölüm, Smith'in din, iman, inanç ve birikimsel gelenek anlayışlarını konu edinmektedir. İkinci bölüm ise, Smith'in diyalog, dinî çoğulculuk, kurtuluş ve dünya teolojisi anlayışlarını konu edinmektedir.

Doç.Dr. H. Ömer ÖZDEN Assist.Prof.Dr. Ruhattin YAZO?LU This study discusses Wilfred Cantwell Smith's understanding of faith and religious pluralism. Accepted as the pioneer of the pluralist model in the Anglo-American theology, Smith has much contributed to the objective understanding of the great world religions in general and Islam in particular by the western thinkers. He accepts the concept of `religion` as the products of the process of systematisation that emerged in the Western World during the 17th century. Thus, he suggests the use of the more convenient and dynamic 'faith' and 'cumulative tradition' concepts instead of the concepts of 'religion' or 'religions'. Smith argues that religions should leave the exclusivist theology of salvation and should accept the existence of such a concept for other religions. To Smith, one of the most important functions of religion is social consensus and dialogue but not conflict. Therefore, religious life should be observed in accordance with religious pluralism. This study consists of two main sections. First section, discusses Smith's understanding of religion, faith, belief and cumulative tradition. Second section analyzes his understanding of dialogue, religious pluralism, salvation and world theology.
