dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of empathy training as anintervention programme on bullying behaviours witnessed among forth and fifth-grade primarystudents. The empathy training programme was developed by the researcher and implementedin one session in a week throughout ten weeks. Each session took one hour on an average.In the study, carried out as a true experimental design, there were an experiment groupand a control group. The sample of the study included 18 students who have had bullyingbehaviours. In the study, Information Gathering Form, Child Form of Bully and VictimDetermination Scale, Empathy Scale for Children and Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory wereused as data gathering tools.Measurements concerning the programme materialized through pre-test, post test andfollow-up after two months. Split-Plot Desing, which includes 2x2 factor and RepeatedMeasurements (ANOVA) analysis were used to determine the effects of interventionprogramme and time period of follow-up study on scores of post test and follow-up scores.Results from the analysis revealed that bullying behaviours of subjects in theexperiment group decreased significantly concerning bullying behaviours of subjects in thecontrol group. Furthermore, levels of self-esteem and empathic skills of subjects in theexperiment group increased significantly comparing to subjects in the control group.en_US
