Edward Bond`un tarihsel oyunlarında diyalektik yaklaşım

Abstract

Bu çalısmanın amacı Edward Bond'un baslıca oyunlarında diyalektik düsünce iletarihsel materyalist anlayısın nasıl kullanıldığını incelemektir. Giris bölümünde tarihin farklıdönemlerinde değisik düsünürler tarafından yorumlanan diyalektik düsüncenin tanımı vetarihsel gelisimi ele alınarak Edward Bond'u büyük ölçüde etkileyen Bertold Brechttarafından diyalektik yaklasımın nasıl yorumlandığı incelenmektedir. Birinci Bölümde,Bond'un politik düsüncelerini ve akılcı tiyatrosunu olusturduğu ilk dönem oyunları ile sondönem oyunlarını kapsayan yazarlık kariyerine yer verilmektedir. Bond'un oyunlarındakidiyalektik yaklasımı inceleyebilmek amacıyla ikinci bölümde, yazarın Shakespeare'in KralLear oyununu yeniden yazma tutkusu ve onun çağdas toplumların hastalıklı yanlarınıgösterebilmek için kaleme aldığı Bingo oyunundaki Shakespeare elestirisideğerlendirilmektedir. Üçüncü bölümde, Bond'un sanatçının toplumsal islevini sahneyetasıyısı ve birey-toplum iliskisi sergilenmekte ve aydınların toplumla olan çatısmalarıirdelenmektedir. Dördüncü bölümde, Bond'un politik görüsleri ile dramatik yöntemleri kadınolgusu baslığı altında, tarihin yeniden yorumuna özel bir önem verilerek incelenmekte, onunsanat ve siyaset alanında varolan diyalektik yaklasımı sergilenmektedir. Besinci bölümde,Bond'un oyunlarının ütopik ve karsı ütopik boyutları ele alınmakta ve yazarın ütopikamaçlarını içeren oyunlarının metin çözümlemesi yapılmaktadır. Çalısmanın sonuçbölümünde, inceleme boyunca ele alınan konuyla ilgili genel bir değerlendirmesunulmaktadır.

The aim of this study is to examine the use of dialectical thought and historicalmaterialism in Edward Bond?s major stage plays.Introductory chapter is concerned with the definition and historical development ofdialectical thought as it has been interpreted by different philosophers in different times andpresents a general survey of dialectical thought as interpreted by Bertold Brecht, who hasexerted a great influence on Edward Bond. Chapter One of the dissertation examines variousphases of Bond?s career, from his early period to his most recent works in which he engagedhis radical exploration of political principles and called his theatre as `rational theatre?. Inorder to analyse the dialectical treatment of Bond?s major stage plays, the second chapterworks on his ambition of rewriting Shakespeare?s King Lear, and his Shakespeare criticismin Bingo to show the political and social ills of contemporary societies. Chapter Three tracesBond?s dramatization of the social role of the artist, and the relationship between theindividual and the society. This chapter also gives the definition of art and artist anddiscusses Bond?s artist figures and their conradictions with society. The fourth chapter dealswith Bond?s political ideas, dramatic methods and the dialectical aspects inherent in theplaywright?s fundamental assumptions about art and politics with a focus on history in thelight of women issues. The fifth part of the dissertation discusses the utopian and dystopiandimensions of Edward Bond?s plays and is also dedicated to close textual analysis ofplaywright?s key dramas of radical utopian ambition.Conclusion gives a general evaluation, and overall discussion of the main issue raisedthroughout the research.
