Raymond Williams`ın People of the Black Mountains adlı romanının yeni tarihselci İncelemesi

Abstract

Sosyal bilimlerde sorgulayıcı bakış açısının etkin olduğu yirminci yüzyılın ikinci yarısında pek çok kavram gibi tarih kavramı ve olgusu da geleneksel algılayışların dışında bir yaklaşımla yeniden değerlendirmeye tâbi tutulmuştur. Yirminci yüzyılın tarih algılayışı, tarihi kültür kavramıyla bir arada inceleyen bir akademik ve düşünsel yapılanma içerisinde biçimlenmiş ve bunun yanında çokkültürlülük anlayışından etkilenmiştir. Yeni tarihselcilik olarak bilinen yaklaşımlar bütünü, tarihi yaşanmışlık, anlatısallık ve metinsellik temelinde inceleyen, yerleşik ve resmi tarih anlatılarından kuşku duyan, kendisine söz hakkı verilmeyenlerin tarihine ve bu bağlamda iktidar ilişkilerinin tarihsel süreçteki biçimlendirici rollerine odaklanan, disiplinlerarası nitelik taşıyan, tarihsel metinleri diğer metinlerle birlikte değerlendiren ve önemli tarihsel olaylar ve kişilerden söz etmek yerine sıradan insanın öne çıktığı bir tür kültür tarihi yazmayı amaçlayan bir inceleme alanını oluşturur.Bu tez çalışmasında kültürel çalışmalar alanının öncülerinden Raymond Williams'ın People of the Black Mountains adlı romanı yeni tarihselci söylem ışığında irdelenmektedir. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde Raymond Williams'ın düşünce yapısı ve sanat anlayışı ve romanın alternatif tarihini yazdığı Galler'in tarihi hakkında bilgiler verilmektedir. İkinci bölümde yeni tarihselcilik akımının ilgilendiği temel konular ve etkilendiği kişi ve düşünce biçimleri anlatılmaktadır. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde People of the Black Mountains'ın yeni tarihselci bir incelemesi sunulmaktadır.

The concept and fact of `history?, like many other concepts, was re-evaluated through an approach outside the traditional perceptions during the second half of the twentieth century, in which a questioning perspective was dominant. Perception of history in the twentieth century was formed within an academic and intellectual structure examining the concept of history together with the concept of culture and influenced by multiculturalism. The complement of approaches known as new historicism forms a field of study which examines the concept of history on the basis of lives, textuality and narrativity, remains doubtful of canonical and formal historical accounts, focuses on the history of those who were not allowed to speak throughout history and, in this context, the formational role of power relations in historical process, has an interdisciplinary structure, evaluates historical texts together with other texts, and aims to write a kind of history of cultures in which ordinary man becomes prominent instead of mentioning significant historical figures and events.In this study, People of the Black Mountains, a novel by Raymond Williams, one of the pioneering figures of the cultural studies, is examined in the light of new historicist discourse. In the first chapter, information relating thoughts of Raymond Williams, his understanding of art and the history of Wales, whose alternative history is written by the novel, is given. In the second chapter, basic issues of new historicism and the figures and movements from which it was influenced are mentioned. In the third chapter of the study, a new historicist examination of People of the Black Mountains is presented.?
