Abstract

SUMMARY Prisoner of war is the one captured and convent i on ed by the combet forces due to international laws and treaties, except some extraordinary cases. In anciant times, prisoner of war was thought to he the property of the person who had captured him. By the time, this led to slavery. The islamic religion was accomponied by many changes is slavery. In the late 1880' s, the pacts of Geneva and the La Haig were signed and the conditions of prisoners of war were ameli orated. In the XX century, a series of regulations was achieved by these countries. During the war of Independence, it was a fact that both the Entente and The Turkish Forces captured and interned pri soners of war mutually, in the East, West and South regions. The Turkish Forces sent them back to be grouped in battali ons. Having made soroe agreements with many countries exclu ding Greece-Turkey attempted to slove this problem,This problem between Turkey and Greece was negotiated in a con ference in Lousanne.^o this pact of Lousanne it was stated to retorn the prisoners to relative countries mutually.But this procedure was started only two months later and completed in six months. The Turkish Goverment has always been stuck to the principle of humanity.and justice in the treatment of the prisoners. But it is nearly impossible to say the some for the others.
