dc.description.abstract | SUMMARY In this thesis, titled `The Socialization Functions of the Children's Television Programs: The Case Study of 'Sesam Street`, is attempted to find out of formel and concextual features of the children's television programs by theoretical and ampiric surveys. It could be assume a factual reality that television has more socializations effects on children than any other socialization agent except school and family. Television offers children social models in great variety and magnitute in which children learn various attitudes, behaviors and expectations about social life. Why television messages much more effective than the other messages transmitted by the other media? In this thesis. We find out an answer this question as follows: this effectiveness come from the form of the television transmission mode in which messages are transmitted. By sound and image, TV give its messages a sense of reality. So. children apprehend that TV is the extension of the real life and learn, from this medium, attitudes, behaviours and roles which could be functional in their life. The Sesam Street, the subject of this thesis ampiric part, is an effective children program which has this effectiveness by its combination of one short of messages limited to preparatory only to scholl and the other short of message aimed to prepare children to whole social life. In this combination, The Sesame Street use huge experience and knowledge heritaged from the scientific studies about the childs mental and social development. T. C.
