Gap sonrası Güneydoğu Anadolu bölgesinde toplumsal değişme (Birecik örneği)

Abstract

Birecik is a town which had been a very important place for civilizations throughouthistorical ages. Since its being on the silk road, its location along the euphrates and it is aplace where east and west meet, Birecik had been a very important place. One of the largestshipyard of the Otoman Empire was in Birecik as a result of above mentioned importances.Birecik had been affected from a very big economical cirisis , which also affected thewhole country, occured in the term of between the last years of Otoman Empire and the firstyears the new Republic. So that, many of the trading establishments and the shipyard hadbeen closed. On the other hand, Birecik couldnt get a benefit from the economicaldevelopment occured in the 1950?s. The people in Birecik had turned into a domestic tradeand a closed social system. But especially with the GAP Project , Birecik progressed animportant rate of development both in ecenomical and social life , likewise in the wholeregion where Birecik exists. This study has been made to examine these changes and to getinformation about the changes in the whole region.
