Investigation of Liquid-Liquid Equilibria For Ternary Systems of Acetic Acid In this study, liquid-liquid equilibria of the ternary systems composed of diethylphenyl malonate + acetic acid + water, diethyl maleate + acetic acid + water and 2-heptanone + acetic acid + water has been investigated. The binodal curve data of these ternary systems were measured by volumetric methods at constant temperatures 21, 25 and 35°C. The binodal curve of the systems under consideration were plotted using each data set. The equilibrium compositions of the phases which are in equilibrium to each other at 21 and 25 °C and tie-lines drawn from these data were experimentally determined. The experimental data were tested by using Bachman, Othmer, Hand and Selectivity methods. The data obtained in our work were found in good agreement with these tests. The distribution coefficients of acetic acid were calculated and the distribution curves were plotted for each ternary systems. The capacity of these solvents was discussed to find out if acetic acid could be extracted from its aqueous solutions. The plait point of the binodal-curve was determined by iterative methods using Bachman, Othmer, Hand and distribution curve equations. As a result, in this study, we demonstrate that extraction of acetic acid from its aqueous solution is possible by contact of the solutions with diethylphenyl malonate, diethyl maleate and 2- heptanone. Key Words: Acetic Acid, Liquid extraction, liquid-liquid equi libria, ternary systems, choice of solvent, tie-line. VIen_US
