dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT Recent investigations have stressed the catalytic activity of iron phthalocy anine on the activation of saturated hydrocarbons, electro-reduction of molecular oxygen, enzymatic reactions of carbon dioxide, and on numerous other applications. In this research iron phthalocyanine is prepared from electrochemically produced iron oxides. These oxides were reacted with phthalic anhydride and urea to give iron phthalocyanine. As far as the literature survey shows, this was their first preparation from such reactants. Electrochemical iron oxides are produced at room temperature, therefore have different defects and non- stoichiometries than the chemical ones. In our laboratory test they have shown remarkably more chemical activity than the chemical ones. The prepared iron phthalocyanines were made alcohol soluble and conferred with dyeing properties through a unique process, which we have developed, employing phase transfer catalyst. After the evaporation of the solvents, solid iron-organic compound was obtained, showing different crystal structures. This thesis gives the details of these preparations and also presents X-Ray, IR-data of these solids. - 11 - | |
