GATA Askeri Tıp Fakültesi`nde öğrenim gören askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS puanları ile okul başarıları arasındaki ilişki

Abstract

ÖZET Bu araştırmada Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi (GATA) Askeri Tıp Fakültesinde öğrenim gören askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS fen puanları ile fakültedeki basanları arasındaki ilişkilerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. ÖYS fen tavan ve taban puanları birbirinden farklı olan bu iki ayrı öğrenci grubunun ÖYS fen puanları ile bu okuldaki başarılan arasındaki ilişkinin sınıflara göre gösterdiği değişim, ÖYS fen puanlan ile fakülte başarılan ilişkisi arasındaki fark, araştırmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada GATA Askeri Tıp Fakültesine 1993-1994, 1994-1995, 1995-1996 eğitim-öğretim yıllarında kayıt olan 253 askeri lise, 162 sivil lise olmak üzere toplam 415 öğrenciye ait ÖYS fen puanları ile alan dersleri (tıp dersleri) ana sınav notları ve alan dersleri genel başarı korelasyonları ve bu korelasyonların farkı incelenmiştir. Veriler GATA Askeri Tıp Fakültesi fakülte sekreterliğinden ilgili yıllara art askeri ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS fen puanları ve alan dersleri ana sınav notları alınarak toplanmıştır. Araştırma 1, 2. ve 3. sınıfta dönem kaybetmeden öğrenim gören öğrenciler ve alan dersleri ile sınırlı tutulmuştur. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde EXCEL 7.0 paket programından yararlanılmıştır. Sınıflara göre, askeri ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS fen puanlan ile alan derslerine ait ana sınav notlan ve ÖYS fen puanlan ile alan dersleri genel başarı notları korelasyonlarını hesaplamak için Pearson Momentler Çarpımı Korelasyon Katsayısı formülü kullanılmıştır. Korelasyonlar farkı Fisher'in z testi kullanılarak 0.05 düzeyinde test edilmiştir. Sınıflara göre, askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS fen puanları ile ana sınav notları arasındaki korelasyon hesaplandığında, askeri liseler için; 1. sınıfta Deontoloji, 3. sınıfta ise Farmakoloji dersi manidar bulunmuştur. 2. sınıfta okutulandersler ise manidar bulunmamıştır. Aynı durum sivil liseler için; 1. sınıfla Organik Kimya ve Biyokimya; 2. sınıfta Anatomi, Biyofizik; 3. sınıfta ise Patoloji dersi 0.05 düzeyinde manidar bulunmuştur. 3. sınıftaki derslerden sadece birinde manidar sonuç çıkmasının nedeni yıllar içinde ÖYS'nin derslerdeki basan ilişkisinin azalması ile açıklanabilir. 1, 2. ve 3. sınıfta öğrenim gören askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS fen puanları Biyoistatistik-Bilgisayar, Organik Kimya ve Biyokimya, ilk Yardım, Anatomi, Fizyoloji, Tıbbi Mikrobiyoloji ve Parazitoloji, Patoloji dersleri ana sınav notları korelasyonları farkı manidar bulunmuştur. Biyoistatistik-Bilgisayar ve Patoloji dersleri sivil liseler lehine, Organik Kimya ve Biyokimya, İlk Yardım, Anatomi, Fizyoloji, Tıbbi Mikrobiyoloji ve Parazitoloji dersleri ise askeri liseler lehine yüksek bir değer vermiştir. 1, 2. ve 3. sınıfta öğrenim gören askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS puanlan ile alan derslerine ait genel başarı korelasyonları, 1. ve 2. sınıfta askeri liseler; 1. ve 3. sınıfta sivil liseler için manidar bulunmuştur. Askeri lise ve sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS puanları ile alan derslerine ait genel basan korelasyonları farkı ise korelasyonlar farkı hesaplandığında, 2. sınıfta askeri liseler lehine manidar bulunmuştur. Askeri lise ve sivil lise öğrencilerinin GATA Askeri Tıp Fakültesine girişte ÖYS fen puanlan ile alan dersleri ana sınav notlan ve alan dersleri genel başarı notlan ilişkisi arasında dikkate değer bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Bu durum, sivil lise kaynaklı öğrencilerin ÖYS puanının askeri lise öğrencilerinden daha yüksek olmasına rağmen, okul basanlarının ÖYS ile ilişkisinin askeri lise öğrencileri ile benzer olduğunu göstermektedir. Buna göre, GATA Askeri Tıp Fakültesi öğrenci kontenjanları, askeri ve sivil liseler arasındaki ÖYS puanı farklılığı ile mevcut haliyle sürdürülebilir. Bu iki ayrı kaynaktan gelen öğrencilerin ÖYS puanlan dikkate alınmadan akademik başarı karşılaştırmasının yapılması önerilebilir.

Ill SUMMARY This study aimed that determination of correlation between Student Placement Examination of Universities in Turkey (Öğrenci Yerleştirme Sınavı - ÖYS) scores and achievements in faculty of students originating from military and civilian high schools who are receiving education in Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GMMA) Military Medical Faculty. The variation of correlation according to the classes, correlation differences between ÖYS science scores and achievements in faculty of these separate student groups who have different minimum and maximum ÖYS science scores consist of subjects of this study. In this study, correlation between ÖYS science scores and field lessons (medical lessons) final exams scores and general achievement at field lessons, and correlation difference of 415 students (253 of those are originating from military high schools and 162 of those are originating from civilian high schools) who enrolled to GMMA Military Medical Faculty at 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 and 1995-1996 education periods are examined. The data belonging to years mentioned above were collected from GMMA Military Medical Faculty Secretariat taking students' ÖYS science scores and their final exams scores at field lessons. This study has been limited with participation of students who did not lose any education period at first, second and third years of faculty and including field lessons. EXCEL 7.0 package program has been used in analyses of data. In respect to the classes, to calculate correlation between ÖYS science scores and final exam scores of field lessons and between ÖYS science scores and general success scores of field lessons Pearson Moments Product Correlation Coefficient formula has been used. Correlation difference has been tested using Fisher's z test at 0.05 significance level. In respect to the classes, when the correlation between ÖYS science scores and final exam scores of students originating from military and civilian high schools was calculated, Deontology lesson at first class and Pharmacology lesson at third class has been significant for military high schools. Any lesson at second class has not been significant For civilian high schools, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry lesson at first class and Anatomy andIV Biophysics lessons at second class and Pathology lesson at third class has been significant at 0.05 level. The reason of significant result in only one lesson at third class may be explained with the decreasing of success correlation of ÛYS in the course of time. The correlation difference between ÖYS science scores and final exam scores of Biostatistjcs-Computer, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry First Aid, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Pathology lessons of students originating from military and civilian high schools who receiving education at first second and third classes has been found sgnificant In terms of civilian high schools Biostatistics-Computer and Pathology lessons and in terms of military high schools Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, First Aid, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology lessons has high value. The correlation between ÖYS science scores and general success of field lessons of the students at first, second and third classes has been found significant at first and second classes for military high schools and at first and third classes for civilian high schools. When the correlation difference between ÖYS science scores and general achievement scores of field lessons of the students originating military or civilian high schools were calculated, a significant correlation has been found at second class for the students originating from military high schools. A considerable difference between ÖYS science scores at the entrance to GMMA Military Medical Faculty and field lessons' final exams scores and field lessons' general achievement scores of the students originating from military and civilian high schools has not been found. This finding indicates that although the students originating from civilian high schools have higher ÖYS science scores than the students originating from military high schools, their correlation between ÖYS science scores and school achievement is the similar to students originating from military high schools. In the base of this result, students quota of GMMA Military Medical Faculty may be continue with present condition in spite of ÖYS score differences between the students originating from military and civilian high schools, ft may be proposed that comparison of academic success of the students originating from two different high schools may be made without taking into consideration their ÖYS points.
