Pozitivist paradigma ile realist ve natüralist yazın arasındaki ilişki: Goriot Baba & Cesaret Madalyası

Abstract

Toplum ve bireyi bilimsel bir yolla incelemeyi amaç edinen sosyoloji ile bir yaratıolarak değerlendirilen edebiyat arasındaki ilişki, 19. yy. toplumcu pozitivizmi ve buyüzyıla hakim iki edebiyat akımı olan Realizm ve Natüralizm bağlamında incelenmiş vegenelde sosyolojinin edebiyatı, özelde ise Pozitivizmin Realizm ve Natüralizmietkileme yönü ele alınmıştır. Nitel araştırma türlerinden biri olan betimsel araştırmanınyöntem ve ilkeleri doğrultusunda tarihsel, entelektüel ve toplumsal kategorileroluşturularak söz konusu ilişkinin nitelikleri ortaya konmuştur.19. yy.da sosyolojinin doğa bilimlerinin yöntemlerini kullanarak toplumu ve bireyiincelemesi gerektiği inancı sosyolojinin pozitivist bir biçimde gelişmesini sağlamış vetoplumcu pozitivizm Comte, Spencer ve Durkheim'ın çalışmalarıyla biçim kazanmıştır.Pozitivizm toplum-birey öncüllüğünü tartışarak toplumu bireyin üzerinde tutmuş vetoplum-birey ilişkisinin nesnel bir yaklaşımla, gözlem ve deney yöntemleriylesaptanması gerektiğini vurgulamıştır.Realizm ve Natüralizm ise toplumcu pozitivizmin etkisiyle kendi toplum-bireyanlayışlarını geliştirmiş ve birer edebiyat akımı olarak kendi yöntem ve kurallarınıbelirlemişlerdir. Realizm toplumu bireyin üzerinde tutmuş ve bireyin çevresi tarafındanşekillendirildiğini ve içinde yaşadığı toplum karşı sorumlulukları olduğunu dilegetirmiştir. Natüralizm ise Pozitivizm ve Darwin'in etkisiyle bireyi biyolojik birorganizma olarak tanımlamış ve bireyin içinde yaşadığı toplum tarafındanşekillendirildiğini öne sürmüştür. Realizm Pozitivizmin yöntemlerinden biri olangözlemi kullanarak nesnel bir yaklaşımla toplum-birey ilişkisini incelemiş ve dramatikroman türünü geliştirmiştir. Zola'nın deneysel kuramı doğrultusunda deneysel romantürünü oluşturan Natüralizm ise Realizm gibi Pozitivizmin gözlem ve nesnellik yöntemve ilkelerini benimsemiş ve bunlara deneyi de eklemiştir.Balzac'ın Goriot Baba adlı romanı Realizmin, Stephen Crane'in Cesaret Madalyası adlıromanı Natüralizmin temsilcileri olarak seçilmiş ve bu eserlerin oluşumundaPozitivizmin etkileri aranmıştır. Her iki eser de Pozitivizmin etkisiyle, temsilcisioldukları söz konusu akımların öngördüğü kurallar çerçevesinde toplum-birey ilişkisiniyansıtmış ve toplumu bireyin üzerinde tutan bir bakış açısı sergilemiştir. The relationship between sociology which takes analyzing society and the individuals ina scientific manner as a goal, and literature which is received as a fiction, is analyzed inthe context of the relationship between 19th century sociological positivism, realismand naturalism which were two dominant literature movements in that century. Ingeneral sociology?s aspects of influencing literature and in particular Positivism?saspects of influencing Realism and Naturalism are also discussed. Through the methodsand principles of the descriptive research which is one of the types of qualitativeresearch, historical, intellectual and social categories are constituted and the qualities ofthe relationships at issue are introduced.In 19th century the belief that sociology should analyze society and the individual byusing the natural sciences? methodology, made the sociology develop in a positivistmanner; and sociological positivism took shape by the studies of Comte, Spencer andDurkheim. By discussing the society-individual superiority, Positivism defined societyas superior to the individuals and emphasized that the relationship between society andthe individuals should be determined by means of the methods that are observation andexperimentation in an objective manner.By the influence of Positivism, Realism and Naturalism developed their own societyindividualconception and as literary movements determined their own methodologies.Realism defined society superior to the individuals and expressed that individuals areshaped by their environment and they have responsibilities to the society in which theylive. By the influences of Positivism and Darwin, Naturalism defined individuals asbiological organisms and suggested that individuals are shaped by the society in whichthey live. Realism, by using observation which is one of the Positivism?s methods,analyzed society-individual relationship in an objective manner and developed dramaticnovel type. Naturalism, developed experimental novel type by means of Zola?sexperimental theory, adopted Positivism?s methods and principles of observation andobjectivity as Realism and added experimentation to this methodology.Balzac?s novel The Old Goriot and Stephen Crane?s novel The Red Badge of Courageare chosed as the representatives of Realism and Naturalism and Positivism?s impactsare looked for in the creation of these works. Both novels, by the influence ofPositivism and within the limits of their own literary movements they belong to, reflectsociety-individual relationship and display a point of view that perceive society superiorto individuals. Through the findings above, it is arrived at a conclusion that sociologyaffects literature and literature has the qualities of being the product of society and asocial production.Key Words(Sociological) Positivism, Realism, Naturalism, Society, Individual
