dc.description.abstractBu çalışmanın amacı, kronik periodontitisli (KP) bireylerde tüm ağız kök yüzey düzleştirme (TAKYD) ile kombine uygulanan metranidazol+amoksisiklin (MET+AMO)tedavisinin serum ve tükürük total antioksidan kapasite (TAOK) ve süperoksit dismutaz (SOD) enzim aktivite düzeylerine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmaya 50 KP'li ve 22 periodontal olarak sağlıklı olmak üzere toplam 72 birey dahil edildi. Periodontitisli bireyler sadece TAKYD uygulanan Plasebo Grubu ve TAKYD ile kombine MET+AMO uygulanan Antibiyotik Grubu olmak üzere 2 gruba ayrıldı. Klinik periodontal parametreler ve serum ve tükürük TAOK ve SOD konsantrasyonları başlangıçta, 1. ve 3. ayda ölçüldü. Periodontal parametreler; kontrol grubunda periodontitis gruplarına göre ve periodontitis gruplarının 1. ve 3. ayında başlangıca göre istatistiksel olarak önemli derecede düşüktü (p < 0.05). Cep derinliği (CD) ve klinik ataşman düzeyi (KAD) periodontitis grupları arasında 1. ve 3. ayda istatistiksel olarak fark göstermezken (p>0.05), gingival indeks (Gİ) ve kanama indeksi (Kİ)antibiyotik grubunda plasebo grubuna göre daha düşüktü (p <0.05). Antibiyotik grubunda, serum TAOK düzeyleri başlangıca göre artarken (p <0.05), plasebo grubunda 1. ve 3. aylarda başlangıca göre herhangi bir fark bulunmadı (p>0.05). Periodontitis gruplarındaki SOD değerlerinin 3. ayda başlangıca göre azaldığı ve bu azalmanın antibiyotik grubunda daha belirgin olduğu gözlendi (p > 0.05). MET+AMO'nun TAKYD'ye ilave sistemik kullanımı inflamasyonu azaltırken, TAOK'deki sistemik artışa ve SOD'da azalmaya neden olarak oksidatif streste düzelme sağlayabilir. dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to analyze the effect of metranidazole and amoxicillin (MET+ AMO) therapy in combination with full mouth scaling and root planning (FMSRP) on total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) and the activity levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes in the serum and the saliva of the patients with chronic periodontitis. Fifty patients with chronic periodontitis and 22 periodontally healthy individuals were included in the study. Patients with periodontitis were divided into two groups; the Placebo Group which received only FMSRP therapy and the Antibiotic Group which received combined metranidazole + amoxicillin therapy together with FMSRP. Clinical periodontal parameters and the TAOC and SOD concentrations in the serum and the saliva were measured at the beginning, first and third month of the therapy. The periodontal parameters was significantly lower in the control group than the periodontitis groups and at the first and third month of the therapy as compared with the beginning in the peridontitis groups (p<0.05). Although no significant differences were found in probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) at the first and third month between the periodontitis groups (p>0.05), in the antibiotic group gingival index (GI) and gingival bleeding index (GBI) were significantly lower than the placebo group (p<0.05). In the antibiotic group, serum TAOC levels were significantly higher at the first and third month than at the beginning (p<0.05) while no difference was observed in the placebo group (p>0.05). In the periodontitis groups SOD levels decrease at the third month as compared with the beginning and this decrease was more prominent in the antibiotic group (p>0.05). Systemic MET+AMO application together with FMSRP decreases the inflammation, it might improve the oxidative stress by causing systemic increase in TAOC and decrease in SOD.
