Research were performed in order to define the incidence, the stage and risk factors of oral mucositis in patients with gastrointestinal, lung and breast cancer patients receiving outpatient cancer chemotherapy. The sample of the study were consists of 147 patients receiving outpatient cancer chemotherapy. The data were collected by questionnaire and `Oral Mucositis Assessment Scale`. In the analysis of data, number, percentage, mean and chi square test was used. The mean age of patients in the study were 53.70 ± 11.18, 61.9% were women, 47.6% were housewives, 1.4% were smoking, 36.7% were overweight, 34.0% of patients had a comorbid disease, about half of patients had a denture and decay teeth, 86.4% were brushing their teeth. About half of the patients in the study (47.6%) were breast cancer, 34.7% were receiving second of chemotherapy cure, 32.7% were history of the chemotherapy, and half of these patients was determined that chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis. It was determined that 81.6% of patients had slight (stage 1) of oral mucositis that oral mucositis incidence was found to be 51.7%. In the study, the risk factors was found as advanced age, lack of appetite, the presence of oral problems during chemotherapy and chemotherapy time (p<0.05). The most common oral problems experienced during treatment of patients was determined as dry mouth (55.1%), reduced sensation of taste / change (52.4%), anorexia (47.6%), drying and cracking of the lips (41.5%). As a result was determined that half of patients receiving outpatient cancer chemotherapy had oral mucositis and oral problems had improved during treatment.en_US
