Prof. Dr. Yener Gülmez February, 1993, 58 pages This study is an attempt to investigate whether instructors use some certain questioning strategies while they teach reading comprehension passages. The subjects of the study were lOO instructors of three different universities: The University of Gaziantep, The University of Çukurova and Middle East Technical University. Descriptive data on the frequency of the use of teacher's questioning strategies were gathered by means of a questionnaire designed for the instructors. The instructors were asked to rate the frequency of their own use of particular questioning strategies in teaching reading comprehension. In Chapter I, there is a general introduction to reading comprehension and questioning in reading, Chapter II deals with the research history and the related studies in this field. Chapter III deals with the method of data collection and the measuring tool. In Chapter IV, the percentage of the instructors' choices in the questionnaire items of the related strategies is given together with the Chi Square test values. The interpretation of the choices of the instructors of the three different universities is given just below the percentage tables for convenience Science Code: ELT 599 3.11
