IV
Y This study designed for investigating fast and reliable methods in the diagnosis of vaginitis and microorganisms that play important roles in the aetiology of vaginitis. We examined vaginal discharge samples obtained from 316 women who suffer from increased vaginal discharge. Patients ages were between 18- 62. Patients were classified into 9 different age groups. The largest was 33-37 age group with 64 patients.( 20.2%). All samples were subjected to direct examination of fresh specimen, gram staining and culturing methods in order to determine bacterial vaginosis, mycotic vaginitis,non-spesific vaginitis and normal vaginal flora. Samples examined by gram staining method indicated that 42 of 316 (13.3%) specimens were of bacterial vaginosis, 65 (20.5%) mycotic vaginitis, 97 (30.7%) non-spesific vaginitis, 110 (34.9%) were of normal vaginal flora whereas 2 (0.6 %) were Trichomonas vaginalis. By culture method out of 316 samples, 38 (12.1%), Gardnerella vaginalis, 65 (20.5%) mycotic vaginitis, 89 (28.2%) different bacteria and 102 (32.3%) lactobacilli were found. Gram staining method of vaginal discharge samples is cheap, easy and reliable method in the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis, mycotic vaginitis, non-spesific vaginitis and normal vaginal flora. It is concluded that gram staining method appears to be the best choice as a method for diagnose vaginitis routinely. The 65 identified yeast samples were subjected to susceptibility tests with antifungal drugs. It was determinated that the specimens resistant to the azole group medication increased in considerable rates. It was shown that the risk of contaminating mycotic vaginitis (70%) and bacterial vaginosis (73%) in women using RIA is more than those who do not use (14.27%). It is our opinion that the success rate in the therapy will be increased by performing the antimycotic susceptibility tests immediately.
