Abstract

Following research is planned in order to evaluate knowledge and practice ofnurses assigned to administer subcutaneous heparin injection in Surgery, CerebralSurgery, Coroner Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery Units in 3 State Hospitals in Kocaeli.59 nurses out of 72 in surgical units who are employed in 3 State Hospitals,were agreed to participate the research.As data collection tool a questionnaire form was used which includeddemographic questions, knowledge and practice questions concerning heparin. Allthe datum which were collected through relevant collection method were analysed onthe computer using percentage and numbering systems.As a result, it is understood that most of the nurses have enough knowledgeabout `Subcutaneous Heparin Injection Method` theoretically, but they do not havethe potential to convert the theory into practice.Keywords: Heparin, subcutaneous injection, nurse
