Türk siyasi hayatında Mehmet Altan Öymen

Abstract

Mehmet Altan Öymen, 20 Haziran 1932 tarihinde İstanbul'da doğmuştur. Çocukluk ve gençlik yaşamı Ankara'da geçmiştir. Öymen, 15 Mayıs 1950 tarihinde Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi'ne üye kaydı yaptırarak siyasete atılmıştır. Bu süreçten itibaren, bir yandan gazetecilik mesleğini yürütürken diğer taraftan da partisi içerisinde, çeşitli idari mevkilerde bulunmuştur. 1961 senesinde, Kurucu Meclis'te Temsilciler Meclisi üyeliği yapmıştır. 1961 Anayasası'nın hazırlanması çalışmalarına katkılar sunmuştur. Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi'nde 16. ve 20. Dönemlerde milletvekili olarak yer almıştır. Milletvekillikleri sırasında, TBMM ve Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi bünyesinde; Grup Başkanvekilliği ile Genel Sekreter Yardımcılığı gibi mevkilerde bulunmuştur. 1977'de Bülent Ecevit'in başkanlığında kurulan 40. Hükümet'te, Turizm ve Tanıtma Bakanlığı görevini yürütmüştür. 1999-2000 yıllarında Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi Genel Başkanlığı yapmıştır. Aktif siyaseti bırakmasının ardından gazetecilik mesleğine devam etmiştir.

Mehmet Altan Öymen was born on 20 June 1932 in Istanbul. His childhood and youth life was spent in Ankara. On May 15, 1950, Öymen became a member of the Republican People's Party and entered politics. Since then, he has held various managerial positions within his party while on the one hand carrying out the profession of journalism.In 1961, he was a member of the House of Representatives in the Constituent Assembly. He contributed to the preparation of the 1961 Constitution. He was a member of Parliament in the 16th and 20th periods. While he was a member of parliament, he also served as Group Vice President and Deputy Secretary General within Turkish Grand National Assembly and the Republican People's Party. He was the Minister of Tourism and Publicity in the 40th Government established in 1977 under the leadership of Bülent Ecevit. In 1999-2000 he served as the Chairman of the Republican People's Party. After quitting active politics, he continued to work as a journalist.
