dc.description.abstract
Abstract The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between students' personality traits (extroversion- introversion and their levels of social adjustments) and foreign language achievement. It was hypothesized that students with high English proficiency would have higher introversion tendencies. Students with more extroversion tendencies would tend to speak efore they master the language. It was believed that ntroversion seemed to help students' progress better in their ^riting skills. In order to test the hypotheses, 270 preparatory students took a personality inventory list and a social adjustment questionnaire. In addition, an in-class behavior form yas used by the teachers to evaluate the subjects on a 5 point ; scale. Statistical analysis revealed that there was a nil relationship between extroversion and foreign language achievement. Students of high success in foreign language did not have higher social adjustment levels in the study. Ho statistically significant difference in in-class behaviors between the extroverted group and the introverted group was found; whereas, a low statistically significant difference was found between the subjects with high levels of social adjustment and low levels of adjustment. The first chapter offers background to the study, terms related to the study, hypothesis, assumptions and limitations, and procedure. The second chapter gives information about the literature ' relajted to the study and presents information on what has been done in this field both abroad and in Turkey. j The third chapter is the Methodology section which describes how the data are collected and analyzed. This chapter consists of ( overview, research design, subjects, instruments, and statistical procedures. The forth chapter gives a detailed account of the results illustrated in tables. In the fifth chapter the obtained results are discussed by comparing and contrasting them with the results obtained in studies of similar nature. 3.Xen_US
