Ayrıca, öğrencilerin İngilizce yazılmış kısa öyküleri okurken karşılaştıkları zorluklar temel alınarak kısa öykü okumaya yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur. ABSTRACT L2 LEARNERS' SELF-IMAGE: A STUDY ON THE STRATEGIES EMPLOYED IN READING SHORT STORIES IN LI AND L2 Aynur KESEN Master Thesis, English Language Teaching Department Advisor: Asst. Prof. Dr. Tijen TÜRELİ October 1999, 205 pages This study aims to elicit the first and the fourth-grade learners' opinions considering the reading strategies they employ while reading short-stories in Turkish and in English. On the basis of strategies learners employ it also compares the reading strategies of first and fourth-year students. After exploring and comparing reading strategies, this study additionally searches into the issue of whether learners transfer their LI reading strategies to those they apply in L2. Furthermore, it focuses on the difficulties learners have in reading short-stories and presents suggestions as to overcome problems encountered in reading this genre. Last not but the least, it investigates learners' expectations from the literature teacher. Key Words: Reading Strategies Short Stories Mother Tongue Foreign Language Language-based Approach
