Y Molar distalization is one of the most common treatment objectives used at any stage of the treatment. However, the treatment is affected negatively because the appliances used for this purpose are not well- tolerated both by patients and by the society, and that they need good cooperation. With the technical improvements, which bring many different materials to orthodontics, intraoral methods gained much validity. in our study, we treated 20 patients with: skeletal Class I and dental Class II malocclusion, with no problems in lower dental arch, erupted upper second molars, increased overbite, low or normal growth and development in vertical plane. In the first group, 10 patients were treated with NiTi open coil spring on a continous arch at the buccal side and in the second, group NiTi open coil spring adapted to the Modified Nance appliance on the palatal side was used. The cases were followed periodically until Class I molar relationship was obtained. NiTi open coil springs were activated in every four week in order to apply 225 gr force. The data taken before and after the treatment were evaluated on 40 lateral cephalometric films and 40 photocopies of the dental casts. The statistical evaluation showed, significant changes were obtained in molar distalization in both groups, while rotation and tipping in molars at ano non-significant level were determined. Reduction in overbite and incisal protrusion due to reactional forces were also seen. The overall comparision showed that, no differences were found between the two groups. Both of the methods can be recommended for molar distalization, because they are well -tolerated by the patient and clinically effective also they don't need patient cooperation.
