We attempt to evaluate the adult delinquency in Turkey in terms of the differences in sex roles, and expectations. The field study was carried out with a total of 240 offenders, 189 male and 51 female at 7 prisons. In collecting data, the techniques of a depth interview, obser vation, and survey were employed, and for the statistical analysis, the chi- square test was used. The research is principally based on a theoro- tical synthesis; Sutherland's differential association theory is con sidered to be a sub- system of general systems theory. Among the variables studied here are marital age, and organiza tion, participation in labor force, the intensity of friend environment. We also give emphasis on the effect of a desirable enculturation on re ducing offending. The findings reveal that prior to the criminal act, female offenders are likely to be under more difficult conditions than male offenders and that they get married at younger ages than the non-offen ders, have few friends and are unemployed. Therefore, they are highly affected by the strain within the family system. The tendency of women to commit crimes is found to be against the members of family system, whereas men have the tendency to commit crimes outside the system. We believe that delinquent behaviour can be reduced by taking a series of socio-economic, educational, legal measures. 0^en_US
