Transforming NATO alliance and new defense strategies

Abstract

Bu tez NATO'nun Transformasyonu ve gelecek için yeni stratejilerini analizetmektedir. Bu tezin temel amacı NATO'nun soğuk savaş sonrası transformasyonsürecini göstermektir.Ayrıca değişen güvenlik ve savunma parametreleri küresel veyerel ölçekte incelenecektir.NATO'nun problemleri ve bunların üye devletlere etkisibu çalışmanın parçası olacaktır.Bazı uzmanlara göre Varşova Paktının dağılması ileNATO var olma sebebi ve amacını kaybetmiştir.Fakat NATO değişen Uluslararasıiklimde yeni bir kimlik ve görev arayışına girmiştir. Terörizm ve nükleer silahlarınyayılması gibi yeni tehtidler NATO tarafından değişen Uluslararası ortamda yenimücadele alanları olarak benimsenmiştir. Yeni tehdit algılaması NATOtransformasyonu sağlayan temel faktör olarak araştırılacaktır. Transformasyon süreciSiyasi ve Askeri açıdan incelenecektir. Gelecek on yıllara yönelik Yeni NATOstratejisi açıklanmaya ve son olarak NATO'nun Dünya siyasetindeki yeni rolü izahedilmeye çalışılacaktır.Key words: NATO,strategy, nuclear weapons,cold war,post cold war.

This thesis analyzes the factors and conduct of the transformation of NATO and itsnew strategies for the future. With the disintegration of the Warsaw pact,for someexperts NATO lost its reason and purpose of existence. But NATO began to searchfor a new mission and identity in the changing international environment. The newforms of threats such as terrorism, and the spread of nuclear weapons, are adopted byNATO as the new missions of struggle in the modified international environment. Theimplications of politics of the US, the EU, Russia, China and other regional powers onglobal security will be analyzed with related to NATO. The new threat perception willbe investigated as the main driver of NATO transformation. The way transformationcarried out will be analyzed in political and military areas. New NATO strategy forcoming decades will be explained. As a theorotical framework Liberal and Realistviews will be the main area of discussion.
